Canadian pianist Matthew Blackburn is rapidly becoming in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. Matthew began piano studies at age 7 growing up on northern Vancouver Island and has been seriously pursuing a career in music since moving to Victoria upon completion of high school. In 2007 Matthew completed the Victoria Conservatory of Music diploma program and received an Associate of the Victoria Conservatory of Music in both piano performance and pedagogy. He also received a piano performance ARCT the same year, while studying with Jamie Syer in Victoria. In 2009 Matthew finished a Bachelor of Music at the University of Lethbridge.
Since his undergrad Matthew has been performing extensively, as well as keeping a busy teaching studio. Performances have included his concerto debut with the Lethbridge Symphony as a result of winning their young artist competition, and performing chamber music and solos in the Fort Macleod International Festival. As well Matthew has had several opportunities to study and perform both solo and chamber music in the south of France, at Académie Musicale Internationale "Barbara Krakauer" summer academy in Vaison la Romaine, France.
Matthew currently studies with Marilyn Engle and the University of Calgary.
